A Season of Gratitude and Growth: Reflections from Our Executive Director

Dear Friends,

As the year begins to draw to a close, I find myself reflecting on all the incredible moments we’ve shared together. At The Green Urban Lunch Box, it’s not just about the work we do – it’s about the people who make it all possible. And I want to take a moment to express my deepest thanks to you.

Your support has made such a difference in 2024. Thanks to your generosity, we’ve been able to rescue more fruit, train more urban farmers, and provide fresh, healthy food to families in need. Every time you volunteer, donate, or simply spread the word about our mission, you’re helping us build a stronger, more sustainable community.

For me, this work is deeply personal. I’ve seen firsthand how our programs have the power to bring people together, creating a vibrant community rooted in food justice and equity. It’s truly inspiring to witness how something as simple as rescuing fruit from backyard trees can have a profound impact, turning what would have been food waste into nourishment for folks all around our valley. Every meal shared and every piece of fruit saved represents more than just food; it represents a step toward a more just and equitable food system.

But our work goes even further. It’s about restoring and nurturing the very land that sustains us. By embracing regenerative farming practices, we are committed to rebuilding soil health, increasing biodiversity, and fostering more resilient ecosystems. Healthy soil is the foundation of a sustainable food system, and through our efforts, we are working to leave the earth better than we found it – growing food that nourishes both people and the planet.

Our work is also about growing community. It’s about connecting individuals from all walks of life -whether they’re volunteers picking fruit, seniors receiving fresh produce, local businesses utilizing a more regenerative producer, or donors who believe in the power of a strong local food system. Together, we’re building a movement where everyone has access to healthy, sustainable food, where we’re restoring the earth with every seed we plant, and where food sovereignty is a reality, not just a dream.

This season, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for being part of our family. You are the reason we can continue this important work, and I’m beyond grateful for each and every one of you.

As we look ahead to 2025, I’m filled with hope and excitement for all that we can accomplish together. I can’t wait to see what we’ll do next – thank you for being on this journey with us.
